First-Timers Guide

Flying private for the first time? Here's everything you need to know to make your experience smooth and enjoyable.

1

Before You Book

  • Determine your travel needs: number of passengers, luggage, and any special requirements
  • Compare options: jet cards, charter, memberships, or fractional ownership
  • Get quotes from multiple providers to understand pricing
  • Ask about aircraft options for your specific route
  • Understand what's included in the quoted price
2

What to Expect at the FBO

  • Arrive 15-20 minutes before departure (not hours like commercial)
  • Park in the designated lot - many FBOs offer complimentary parking
  • Check in at the front desk with your ID
  • Relax in the lounge while your aircraft is prepared
  • Your crew will come to meet you and escort you to the aircraft
3

Onboard the Aircraft

  • The crew will give you a brief safety orientation
  • Seats are typically arranged in club configuration facing each other
  • Wi-Fi is available on most aircraft (ask when booking)
  • Catering can be arranged in advance - from snacks to full meals
  • Lavatory facilities vary by aircraft size
4

Luggage Guidelines

  • Luggage capacity varies significantly by aircraft type
  • Soft-sided bags are easier to fit in smaller aircraft
  • Golf clubs, skis, and other sports equipment can usually be accommodated
  • No TSA liquid restrictions on private flights
  • Discuss special luggage needs when booking
5

During the Flight

  • You're free to move about the cabin once at cruising altitude
  • Use your phone, laptop, and devices freely
  • Enjoy the catering and beverages provided
  • Flight attendants are typically only on larger aircraft
  • Feel free to speak with the pilots (when appropriate)
6

Upon Arrival

  • The aircraft taxis directly to the FBO
  • Your ground transportation can meet you on the ramp
  • Luggage is typically unloaded immediately
  • No waiting at baggage claim or customs lines (for domestic)
  • International flights still require customs, but at a private facility
